New longest ride: 89 km, up from 66km (35% increase).
Fair warning: The fall colors were gorgeous, so there are a lot of pictures from this ride.
With this ride, I’ve ridden every section of the route from my house to York, and I’ve pushed my range up to nearly 100km. My family has a farm in northern Pennsylvania. It would be nice to leave early and ride to York, allowing my partner to sleep in and leave at a more reasonable hour. She could pick me up in York and we could continue the drive together. It looks like that’s now possible.
Hydration / Nutrition
Didn’t drink enough water. Packed 2 liters, drank only 1.5. The ride was 4 hours, so at 500 ml/hr all of it should have been gone. Tried setting timers via Siri, but they never seemed to go off. I’ll look into this further.
The Clif drink mix is sugarrry. It makes my teeth hurt, even while writing this +6 hours later. I’ll cut back the concentration to 1/2 the recommended dosage.
Food went well. Ate a Clif bar, 2 sets of 3 shot blocs, and a smoothie on the way home.
I felt good throughout. Good energy and alertness. Could have done 11 more kilometers to make it an even 100.
The phone screen was off south of York, but RwGPS and BikeGPX both running. Burned 52% of the battery case and none of the phone battery, in about 4 hours. Temperature was 40 F to start and closer to 50 F at finish.
Tried some new tights (Castelli Meno 2 Wind). Love ‘em. Warm when it’s cold, but didn’t overheat when it’s warmer.
Upper body was overheating during the climb. Removed my skull cap, and cooled right down.
The trailhead park is also home to the York County Astronomical Society.
