Medical Drones are small unmanned aircraft that transport medical cargos between remote communities and well-equipped medical facilities. For the past couple of years, I've been working with Johns Hopkins to develop aircraft that can safely transport medical cargos. Our first research paper has worked its way through the review process and will be published shortly. We're launching MedicalDrones.org as a hub for our work.
Tensegrity is a strategy of structural design. Compression elements (rods) and tension elements (strings) are combined to create low density structures. These models were built with the same materials that the sculptor Kenneth Snelson used in the 1950s: aluminum tubes and ball chain. There isn’t anything better available commercially, so I’m toying with the idea of developing a tensegrity building kit.
